The AQUA Sightline mobile application is key in allowing for real-time surveillance and control of these super-intensive crops so you can meet projected results of each harvest.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival of the American multinational Sightline Systems to Colombia, with its AQUA Sightline pilot project, translates into an opportunity to take advantage of hundreds of fish farming ventures, including those that have the pond channeling system \u2013 IPRS (In-Pond Raceway Systems). It is a very powerful and versatile mobile application, which improves aquaculture operations in general.<\/p>\n<p>And in view of the enormous potential that Colombia has in fish production and the unstoppable market demand, for years the country has been betting on the implementation of the IPRS system, a technology that has allowed fish farmers to significantly increase productivity per cubic meter of its cultivation, at a lower cost per fish and lessened environmental impact, as highlighted by the Colombian Federation of Aquaculturists (Fedeacua).<\/p>\n<p>In summary, \u201cit is possible to produce 3 times more than through the traditional system, and costs are reduced by 30%,\u201d indicated Fabio Augusto Medina, producer for the Government of Huila.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BET<br \/><\/strong><br \/>The IPRS Pond Raceway System is a promising strategy to further increase fish performance in static ponds, according to the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA). Where instead of the fish growing freely in the pond, in the IPRS they are \u201cconfined at high densities in floating or fixed raceways. Water circulation and aeration are continuously provided to each raceway, maintaining adequate and safe oxygen levels in the growout cells, regardless of the oxygen status in the pond,\u201d they add.<\/p>\n<p>This allows tilapia production to be doubled or even tripled. It should be noted that IPRS was created and initially launched at the School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University (SFAAS-AU, Alabama, USA) in the early 90s, and has managed to grow successfully in Colombia according to samples provided by Fedeacua.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the aquaculturists&#8217; union reveal that by 2023, the number of these systems in Colombia will increase to approximately 700, making the country the most prominent in all of Latin America in its implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Colombia, there are approximately seven hundred raceways in the production stage, most in the department of Huila. Pisc\u00edcola Botero and Pisc\u00edcola New York are some of the companies that have adopted this system,\u201d Silvio L. Cerquera Trujillo, representative of IPRS of Colombia, a firm specialized in the assembly of this system, told the union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A GREAT OPPORTUNITY<br \/><\/strong><br \/>The aquaculture specialist for Sightline Systems, senior consultant Laura Toro, agreed that there is currently a lot of work being done within the fish farming sector in Colombia, \u201cin order to improve production systems that go hand in hand with profitability, not only economical in terms of increasing the quality of fillet and fresh meat, but also obtaining higher densities in smaller bodies of water and at the same time contributing to sustainable systems in environmental terms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She indicated that a specific case is the IPRS, but since they are super-intensive projects, \u201cit is still a system that requires special conditions and\/or care and, even, the development of technologies that allow it to maintain the ideal conditions to be able to meet initial expectations in terms of: quality, mortality, returns, investment and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the aquaculture specialist at Sightline Systems, in response to this need, the AQUA Sightline application was launched, through which the producer can have greater control of his production. How? \u201cKeeping a daily record of food consumption, mortality and sampling so that, through the operational data captured 24\/7, analysis of optimal operational performance can be carried out to be more competitive and sustainable over time,\u201d said Toro.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that, in IPRS, because they are systems that host a relatively high biomass, \u201cit is necessary to monitor water quality at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With our application and its alert system supported by telemetry, it allows the producer to make decisions in time before a major problem arises.
