Sightline EDM 6.0 Release

Sightline EDM 6.0 Release Notes

Introduction

Sightline EDM provides centralized data collection, alerting, archiving and summarization for data provided by Sightline Power Agents and Interface Agents, as well as data collected agent-lessly from other data sources. EDM also provides a web-based interface for data visualization, root cause analysis and Agent Administration and configuration.

These release notes describe new features and updates included in version 6.0 of Sightline EDM.

Power Agent Compatibility

This release of EDM is compatible with all data sources provided by Sightline Power Agents and Interface Agents.

EDM 6.0 (July 2024)

** Upgrade notes

Sightline EDM 6.0 requires Java 11. For sites that perform manual upgrades, Java 11 must be installed before the upgrade, and the JAVA_HOME environment variable updated to point to the new Java version. Not installing Java 11 will cause the EDM upgrade to fail.

During the upgrade process a password for the Admin Database will be requested. You can enter the current password or select a new password. Alternately, you can ask the installer to generate a random password. Passwords will be encrypted when saved to EDM’s configuration files.

New Features New User Settings

Chart settings can now be set for each user. The new User Settings area allows users to set their own chart preferences such as Connect all data points and Max intervals per chart. The User Settings also includes the user timeout setting and Home Page report, which had been included in the Account settings display. Note that System Settings > Chart Settings are now default settings that will be used for scheduled reports and dashboards.

Admin Database Password Encryption

Communication between EDM services frequently requires credentials that are stored in the configuration files. The installation now offers the option to encrypt the admin database password, and includes an option to randomly generate the password. See the EDM User’s Guide for details, or contact Sightline Technical Support.

Display Chart-specific Updates

The wrench icon in the title bar of a chart within a report indicates that the chart has been modified. Hover text has been added to the icon to indicate the type of updates that were made. The hover text will indicate that updates were made using the Edit Time, Edit Connections, or Chart Options menus. The timestamp of the last update and user are also shown in the hover text box.

New User Settings New Band option for alert definitions

You can now create an alert definition that will check for a range of values either within or outside of a specified band. For example, the range could be between the min and max values, or outside of that range. See the EDM User’s Guide for details.

New configuration options for gauge charts

Configuration options for gauge charts have been expanded. You can now specify multiple ranges within the gauge chart, with specific colors for each range.

Changes
EDM requires Java 11EDM 6.0 was compiled using Java 11 and requires Java 11 to run. See the upgrade note above if you will be performing a manual upgrade. For sites that use the 1-click option for upgrading EDM, the installation process will perform these steps.

Upgrade PostgreSQL to version 15.1

When using the 1-click installer for Sightline EDM, the default admin database is PostgreSQL. New Sightline EDM 6.0 implementation will be installed with PostgreSQL 15.1. Upgrades from previous versions of EDM will include an upgrade from PostgreSQL 10.4 to PostgreSQL 15.1. If you are not running PostgreSQL 10.4 (for instance, if you have manually upgraded your PostgreSQL admin database) the 1-click installation process will skip this upgrade step.

Third-party software upgrades

Multiple underlying third-party software packages have been updated to provide better security and processing support for Sightline EDM. If you have questions about specific items, please contact Sightline Systems Technical Support.

Third-party software upgrades

Support for Oracle in Sightline EDM has been deprecated. If you are using Oracle for your admin database or JMS database, please contact Sightline Systems Technical Support.

Increase default maximum Java Heap Size for DCS

The DCS installation process now sets the maximum memory size for DCS to 4g.

Cannot save additional email addresses for scheduled reports (ticket #27061)

When updating the email addresses for a scheduled report, the updates could not be saved. Although the text box allowed 1024 characters, the database table only accepted 256 characters. This has been corrected, and the email text box will now store up to 1024 characters.

Processed CSV file contains NUL characters after being processed (ticket #27022)

After being processed and moved to the \processed directory, some input CSV files contained NUL characters at the end of the file. The file connection process was filling extra spaces at the end of the file with NUL characters. This has been corrected.

Summarization on chart does not work when filtering is used (ticket #26869)

Context data can be used to filter and display selected data, based on the values of the context data. However, when summarizing the data the context data filter was not applied as expected. This has been corrected, and summarization can be used in conjunction with context data.

X-axis labels don’t match column/bar chart summarization (ticket #26704)

When displaying a column or bar chart with monthly summarization, the labels on the x axis did not match the displayed graphic. This has been corrected.

Sum of summary data not aggregated correctly (ticket #26513)

When multiple history files were configured for a connection, the sum in the summary data was not aggregated correctly. This has been corrected.

Regular expressions in subscripts not working

Array expressions can include regular expression in the subscript definition so that subscripts can be included or excluded as specified. These regular expressions were not always being interpreted correctly. This has been corrected. Note that any existing array expressions that does not include brackets ( [ ] ) at the end of the expression name should be deleted and recreated so that it includes the brackets in the expression name.

Login settings applied when using Active Directory

When using Active Directory to validate EDM credentials, the Login settings such as timeouts were applied but should not be. This has been corrected and Login and Password settings will now be ignored when using Active Directory.

Known Issues

Scheduled dashboards on Linux systems

On Linux operating systems, shared libraries is a dependency for phantomJS to generate the report. If missing, an error will be written to the edmadmin.log and reports will not be created. To installed shared libraries, run this command in a Linux terminal: sudo yum install fontconfig
